Other Goshen delights

Baba keeps an unlimited stash of gum in his car. Oh and he lets the boys drive the car.

From Malawi to . . . Goshen

We are now living the good life, living at the parent's house. Eating good food. The kids are in heaven. Kian thinks Madar is moving with us to Utah and will be sleeping in his room.

Darian got reaquainted with Baba and they were fast friends. At first when we got to Goshen, he would approach Baba shyly and say, "Baba can we go to the basement and play?" (there are a lot of toys down there and a tv and vcr that plays Darius's old school vhs videos), now a few months later, the instant Baba comes home Darian is on him and just says "Baba: basement" and everyone knows what to do from there.

As promised . . . home for Kian's Birthday

Kian's birthday was celebrated in Goshen. He's been talking about the "green bike" that he wants madar and baba to buy him for about 6 months and finally it came to fruition. Except when he got to Target the Spiderman bike was so much cooler.

Matemwe Beach, Zanzibar

Our evening ritual would consist of watching the cook from our hotel clean the fish we were about to eat every night. I've discovered my favorite fish to eat is Red Snapper.

Mnemba Island & Stonetown

We took a boat out to do some Finding-Nemoesque snorkeling. It was pretty unreal. Our captain was wearing only a t-shirt and underwear. We saw a stingray and Kian tried snorkeling for the first time.

Paje Beach

This was one of the most beautiful beaches.

Notice that Kian is holding one of his arms at almost a 90 degree angle. He got some kind of weird funky skin disease (called impetago but looked like leprosy) AND mumps so needless to say this wasn't his best Christmas ever. This brings Kian's running total of ailments in Africa to: Scabies, Malaria, some weird fungus, Mumps, and impetaigo (twice). Two more months to go, we'll see what else we can add to the list.

Christmas

Notice the makeshift Christmas tree.

Santa figured it out though because Jeff wrote him an email to tell him we were in Zanzibar for Christmas.

Darian had a Tickle-me-elmo brought in for him from the U.S. from some friends who happened to be in Zanzibar.
